1) Adoption of Basar Village - Project Digithon

Basar village was adopted by Telangana Information Technology Association (TITA) and RGUKT (Basar) on 17th Dec 2015, under the banner of ‘Digithon’. The aim of this mission is to teach at least one person in every household and make the village Digitally Literate. TITA adopted the “Train-the-trainers” model to accomplish this mission and trained and certified more than 650 RGUKT (Basar) Digithon Certified Trainers (called as ‘Digital leaders’). In this, 200 Digital Leaders were selected for Digital Basar project.

This mission has been successfully completed thus bestowing on Basar village a remarkable achievement of being the “First Digitally Literate Village” in Telangana State.

2) Lead India Campaign

The University has conducted LEAD INDIA programme for its students. This program is guided by the 10- point oath designed by His Excellency Late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the former President of India. Students who undergo this program set high goals in life and become change agents, not only transforming their lives but also that of their family, society and those they come in contact with. A Lead India National Club (LINC) comprising of around 200 members has formed in RGUKT. Training of LEAD INDIA volunteers is being conducted at RGUKT, Basar for the past three years.

3) Haritha Haram Programme

Under the Harita Haram programme, RGUKT has taken active part in the government’s initiative to drastically enhance the green cover of planet earth. During the campaign, RGUKT students, faculty and staff planted over 30000 saplings in the past 3 years. Despite scarcity of water being common in the region almost 95% of the saplings were nurtured and have started to grow. RGUKT plans to undertake this program on a regular basis and keep the idea of green cover for planet earth active.

4) Outreach Program By Academic Department

RGUKT considers it a societal responsibility that it share the knowledge and resources it has with the society. In this regard various academic departments of the University plan outreach programs in which they go to various schools, colleges, villages and towns to participate in academic activities that would benefit the students and villagers from these areas. During the academic year 2016-2017, the Departments of Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, Telugu,English, Computer Sciences & Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering have all conducted Outreach programs in Basar village as well has nearby schools and colleges. These programs received wide appreciation.

5) National Service Scheme(NSS)

National Service Scheme is an MHRD, Government of India, initiative for the under graduate students of India to link education to community service. As indicated by the motto of NSS which states “Not me, but you,” students are encouraged to actively involve themselves in programs that spread awareness of key concepts like environment, health, hygiene, sanitation, patriotism, service etc. among the people. Students participating in such activities invariably develop stronger and more stable personalities that are tempered by their experience with community service and spreading awareness. RGUKT, Basar, has a very active NSS wing with about 1000 volunteers. The NSS wing at RGUKT, Basar has now extended to rope in the XI and XII class students into this laudable scheme.

NSS Volunteers engaged in various service activities like sanitation, crowd control and service activities at the Saraswathi temple during festivals, rallies with socially relevant themes etc.

6) Visaka & RGUKT’s role in digital economy

Visaka - Vittiya Saksharata Abhiyaan- stands for transforming India towards cashless transactions and a digital economy. It is a campaign by Higher Educational Institutions for digital economy. Under this program, cashless modes of payment like RuPay, USSD, Debit cards, Mobile Wallets, Net Banking, BHIM etc. are focused on and actively canvassed as preferred modes of payment in comparison to cash payments widely prevalent now.

A special awareness program was conducted at RGUKT, Basar on January 4th, 2017. The concept of digital economy and how the University can play a role in the same was highlighted by the Vice Chancellor. As suggested by the campaign Visaka, the aim was to transform the campus into a cashless one with all wages, salaries, vendor purchases and fees for services made cashless.

As a first step, RGUKT, Basar, has successfully made all fee payments totally digital – i.e. online. Payments for all fees and salary/wage disbursement have been made digital using programs and procedures. That are entirely developed in-house.

As a second step, RGUKT is planning to encourage students and student social organizations like NSS to take up social awareness camps. Under this plan, student and other volunteers from the University will be actively canvassing with shop owners, small vendors, employees and even householders and highlighting the benefits of cashless transactions and digital economy.

Some volunteers will also be registering with MHRD as active participants in this movement.

7) Antahpragnya – The Techfest

Antahpragnya is a Techfest that is being organized by RGUKT, Basar, since 2015. The event is an opportunity for students to expand their technical horizons and apply the knowledge obtained from books to practical situations. Students participate in the event from colleges all over Telangana and even nearby states of Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra. The event is also hugely popular with school and college students in the vicinity, who make their way to the event to see, learn, enjoy and encourage.

Students from nearby schools and Dignitaries visiting the Techfest. The event conducted in RGUKT, Basar campus since 2015 has become very popular in the region. This year, over 1000 students from nearby schools and colleges visited the fest.

8) NASA – AMES Competition

Every year, NASA Ames Research Centre (USA), San Jose State University and the National Space Society (NSS) jointly conduct the NASA Ames Space Settlement Contest for students studying up to grade XII from all over the world. RGUKT, Basar, has been encouraging its students to send entries since 2013. It is a matter of great happiness that every year since then, students of RGUKT, Basar, have won at least one prize from the year 2013, including in the one conducted last year in 2016.

9) Aayush

Aayush as one of the social awareness organizations established at RGUKT, Basar, related to the health aspect. It has been formed through the initiative of students as well as faculty.

10) Sports Elite

“The moment of victory is much too short to live for that and nothing else,” said Martina Navratilova, tennis player. Apart from commemorating victories, sports meets also aim at imparting lessons on sportsman spirit and camaraderie to children. RGUKT Basar celebrates Annual Sports day coined as SPORTS ELITE and is held during the month of Jan/Feb every year.

The Physical education department helps and encourages all the students to participate in various competing sports activities which cricket, basket ball, volleyball, football, badminton, kho-kho, table tennis, and many more. The participating students display their ability through these sports. The winner of these games gets a sense of proud and is accolade with prizes and certificates.

Sports help improve both physical and mental strength. Our body remains fit and healthy.

11) VARNA-an exquisite fest of tradition.

Varna celebrated as anuual Taditional day an event that portraits’ our traditional culture to convey our concern towards environment. Its celebrated on the auspirous day of ‘Sri Rama Na-vami’ . Events starts with Saraswathi pooja, acknowledging the essence of the holy place basara and then followed by different events which includeds Plantation, poster presentation, food without flame, flash mob, treasure hunt, Daandiya etc.

12) Hope House

Hope house is a trust formed to help the students who are in needy. Most of the students of RGUKT are from rural background, and struggle from economical support. This trust is to fulfill the requirements and to give support for genuine problems. Our aim is to help the students in best possible way with more transparency. Hope House started very recently in such way that it remains a beacon of light for the needy, spends every penny received for genuine causes in a genuine and more accountable manner.

13) Kalarachana

kalarchana is the one of the biggest event that wipped the dark horses in the students and encouraged them to participate in cultural activities. Kalarchana includes events like poetry, painting, singing, dancing, short films, debate, elocution, essay writing, rangoli, mehandi, skits, photography and many more. Each and every event is handled by student representatives and coordinators under the direction of cultural convener.

14) Alumni Association

RGUKT, Basar has a registered Alumni Association. Starting from the first batch of students that graduated in 2014 till the current batches, several students are active in this association. The association conducts alumni – alumni activities as well as alumni – student activities on a regular basis. Recently, the alumni association organised a three day workshop for the current student’s in order to give them insights into entrepreneurship, self-employment and regular employment. They counselled the students regarding the various options available to them after their graduation. Workshops are also conducted by the alumni association to make the students aware of market trends and latest technologies. Students, who topped in national level exams like Gate etc., also speak to the students to motivate them with helpful tips and their own experiences.

15) NPTEL

RGUKT Basar has once again proved its academic caliber.

RGUKT Basar is Awarded as one of the “ Top 15 Local Chapters” out of 2800 plusLocal Chapters in the country by SWAYAM-NPTEL, MHRD, India

RGUKT Basar Currently Ranks at 14th at the National Level and stands among top 0.5 %Local Chapters, There are more than 2800 plus Local chapters in the country. This is so farthe Best Rating of RGUKT Since 2016 after being associated with SWAYAM- NPTEL,MHRD,India. This is the best rating by any Government University/ College so far.

RGUKT Basar was Felicitated at an event for the same held at IIT Madras on 26th July 2019.A memento and certificate are provided for the same to the University by theProf.Bhaskaran, Director IIT Madras.

Last semester, More than 950 students had appeared for NPTEL Courses and 45 of them areToppers of the respective courses at the National Level and others have got very good grades.

The award is for the stupendous performance of RGUKT Students at the National level.NPTEL and SWAYAM Coordinator of the University Mr.S.C.Rakesh Roshan,Asst.Professor was also awarded Appreciation award at national level for the efforts put in forthe same.

RGUKT Basar administration have facilitated for the smooth conduction of NPTEL coursesin the University by providing dedicated infrastructure and also by Obtaining all the Contentsof NPTEL Courses and having them readily available in the local server for the benefit ofstudents.

Faculty of the University are also actively completing FDP Programs as part of SWAYAM-NPTEL initiative by UGC.

RGUKT Basar is also the First University in Telangana to implement Credit Transfer(SWAYAM). UGC, MHRD, Govt of India is also very keen in the implementation ofMOOC’s in all the Institutes in the country.

RGUKT Basar has always been a forerunner and implementing MOOC’s since 2016 andCredit Transfer Since 2017.
